OPERATION WILD CATS

DO YOU KNOW WHO WE ARE?

HOW IT ALL STARTED:

The organization was established in September of 2002. Linda Shaffer (Founder) attended a Village Board Meeting to present a feral cat problem within the Madison County area. She left the meeting needing more evidence. Operation Wild Cats was established, and is providing services to many families and the feral cats they are caring for. The organization has receives food, money and supplies from monetary donations that have come from individuals and businesses throughout the area. We are the only feral cat program in Madison County and are seeking any support to make the organization a success

MISSION STATEMENT:

FERAL DOES NOT MEAN A LIFE OF HORRIBLE EXISTENCE!!

FREE OF DISEASE

ENOUGH TO EAT

RESCUING OF KITTENS

A PLACE TO SLEEP

LIVE HEALTHY, SAFE, AND PEACEFUL LIVES

WHAT WE DO WITH THE CATS:

A feral cat colony is one in which the cats cannot be domesticated. Therefore the cats cannot be held and often run from humans. The cats within the colony survive by hunting and accepting handouts. Within a short time other feral cats move in. When we are notified of a cat colony by their caregivers, we set in motion the start to stabilize the colony. Have a Heart traps are set to capture the cats and they are not harmed in anyway. Once trapped, a blanket is placed over the trap to help calm the cat down. Then the cats are taken to the clinic were they are first tested for any diseases that are contagious to other cats, spayed / neutered, vaccinated and then returned to the caregivers for their recovery period. After their recovery period, the cats are re-released to the original colony and from this point on, these cats cannot produce any more kittens and the population decreases over time. The caregiver continues feeding these cats until they die of natural causes.
